"The future is the past returning through another gate." Arnold Glasgow
Pike flew the shuttle toward the Romulan Ship. In the back of his mind, he heard Spock's voice and that damned speech about controlling fear and not letting it control you. How this was a quality expected in every Starfleet Captain.
There were times in his life Pike wished he hadn't excelled at his training as quickly or as well as he did. This was one of those times. Maybe he wouldn't have been so quick to jump at this mission. Not that he had much of a choice in the matter. The lives of his crew, and his fleet were at stake Perhaps even those of the entire Federation, he had to do this.
He wondered if Capitan Robau of the Kelvin could feel his heart beating in his throat when he made this same journey twenty-five years prior. Robau didn't know what the outcome of his journey would be, he could have thought there was a way out.
Pike knew better. He knew Robau never came back. He knew how quickly it all ended for him. He knew he could very well be next, and that was making everything but the pounding in his ears difficult to process. In less than ten minutes, he could be a dead man and that scared the hell out of him.

Haha, 3AM is a time replete with the evils known as spelling errors. S'all good. ♥
