Summary: The taboo about discussing pon farr is very Vulcan specific, which means you can discuss human sexuality. But Spock assumed no decent people would.

Heh, this was funny. Poor Spock though. I empathize a lot with him here. My parents never understood the concept of TMI when it came to their sex life as they disclosed it to their children either. They were honest and didn't believe much in hiding their sex life, toys and porn and such, because they somehow thought would make their children less verklempt than the prudish approach their own parents had. This turned out to be false and gave traumatizing results ... and me way too much info about their sexual practices even when I tried not to find out anything from them or mention sex with them ever since I was six or so and my mom explained anal sex to me, when I asked her what "doing it Greek" meant after I had heard the phrase.
