Summary: This story can stand alone, but it is also a prequel to Diplomatic Efforts. In which Jim gets a nasty letter from his stepfather right before the Enterprise is due to depart spacedock and it brings the very messy past into the present. Hello, have an angstfest.
Warnings/Triggers: Off-screen stuff, but discussed/impacting the present-- underaged sex, including consensual and non. Child abuse. Prostitution.
