Title: Fighting Gravity
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Rating: PG-13
Notes: An AU spawned off the "scruffy Spock" pics posted in
ontd_startrek last October. It grew a plot, and I've been writing this since. It's now done, at about 140,000 words. (For full notes, see the index post.)
Summary: When Spock left Starfleet after the encounter with Nero, Jim thought he'd lost his chance at their supposedly destined friendship. Upon returning to Earth after the Enterprise's first five-year mission, he discovers that Spock lost far more. Jim's willing to fight for the bright future they were promised, but the one thing standing in its way is Spock himself.
Since last crossposting...
Chapter 08: He was having fun, but just as entertaining was watching Jo get all starry-eyed at Spock.
Chapter 09: "If you can come up with a logical reason why we shouldn't share a bed, then let me know."
Chapter 10: "Life is a strange organism. No two are alike - and none is ever truly alone."
Chapter 11: "...So Spock - we haven't talked to Uhura yet."
Chapter 12: "I... fail to see how shooting each other could be considered a friendly activity."
Chapter 13: ...Great, and now his shirt was riding up. That was the last thing Jim needed.
