Amanda had learned early on that when Spock had that look on his face, whatever was coming would be beyond her ability to answer, and this time was no exception.

"Something is troubling me, Mother. We learned about sexual reproduction at school today, and I do not understand why you and Father choose to copulate, as the act will not produce a child."

Amanda blushed, and quirked an eyebrow at Sarek as if to say, 'Well, he is your son...."

Sarek cleared his throat, and began, "It is...." Sarek stopped, started again. "You see, Spock, when two people love each other very much...."
